Houston, TX - (9/12/2017) Dean’s Professional Services announces Mr. Kievan Boudreaux and Ms. Brianna Love as the 2017 Gregory Dewayne Smith Memorial Scholarship Winners. Mr. Boudreaux and Ms. Love accepted their awards from Dean’s Professional Services on September 12, 2017.
Mr. Kievan Boudreaux is currently a sophomore majoring in Business Analytics and Technology at Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas. His exceptional volunteer experience includes over 243 hours of logged community service with the Boys and Girls Club of Hawaii – Hale Pono Ewa Beach Clubhouse. His volunteer work consisted of coaching the clubhouse youth in basketball and flag football, organizing and running a program to give children free school supplies and community policing.
Kievan stated that the scholarship will help him achieve his goal of getting through college debt free. He also hopes to continue on to law school once he completes his undergrad degree to become a lawyer.
Ms. Briana Love is a multi-recipient of the scholarship and an undergraduate at Wellesley College pursuing a degree in Architecture and Applied Geosystems Sciences. Her enthusiasm in her studies is in designing and engineering a fluid and sustainable world. Her impressive volunteer experience with over 393 hours logged throughout her high school career, expanded further during her freshman year by volunteering teaching elementary children and exposing them to different cultures and arts outside of their everyday life. During her first summer of college she also interned at the San Antonio Zoo field researching and leading an educational outreach program.
Brianna hopes that the scholarship helps her in innovating, engineering, researching, and designing water reclamation systems and sustainable energy solutions for cities throughout the world. This upcoming semester she will begin researching lead remediation for communities by creating a water filter for heavily leaded water and find ways to integrate this solution into the prototype from her recent internship at University of Cabo Verde.
The Gregory Dewayne Smith Memorial Scholarship is open to students who have completed 100 hours of community service within 24 months prior to the date of his/her submission. Community service must be verifiable with letters of recommendation and contact information. Each student must also submit a 500 word essay titled "What I Am Doing to Make a Difference in My Community". Two recipients are awarded a $500 scholarship.
This scholarship is in honor of Gregory Dewayne Smith, a board member for Dean's Professional Services who lost a battle with pneumonia in early 2011. Jennifer Dean, President and CEO of Dean's Professional Services is quoted as stating "The student chosen to receive this scholarship should possess the same passion for change that Mr. Gregory Dewayne Smith possessed".
