Houston, TX - (8/12/2015) Houston TX – Dean’s Professional Services announces Ms. Brianna Love as the 2015 Gregory Dewayne Smith Memorial Scholarship Winner. Ms. Love will accept her award during a presentation at the DPS Corporate offices on Friday, August 14, 2015.
Ms. Love is a graduate of Cornerstone Christian Schools in San Antonio, Texas. She will be a freshman at Wellesley College this fall. Ms. Love’s exceptional volunteer experience, over 393 hours logged throughout her high school career, with the San Antonio Zoo, San Antonio Food Bank and One Way International stood out among all other applications.
In addition, Ms. Love’s extracurricular involvement at Cornerstone Christian Schools include, class parliamentarian and treasurer, school ambassador, president of the French Club, Historian of the International Thespian Society, Officer of the Library Teen Advisory Board, Treasurer of the National Art Honor Society, Parliamentarian of the National Honor Society, Band Member, and TV Host of the Cornerstone Christian Schools Warrior TV.
In 2013 and 2014, Ms. Love qualified and competed in the TAPPS Math Calculations and Science Contests and she graduated with highest honor bestowed in TexPREP (Texas Prefreshman Engineering Program). She placed in the top 20 teams in the 2014 SABEST (San Antonio Boosting, Engineering, Science and Technology Contest) and won honorable mention in the Scholastic Art and Writing Southwest Region Contest in the short story and science fiction categories.
The Gregory Dewayne Smith Memorial Scholarship is open to any senior high school student who has completed 100 hours of community service within 24 months prior to the date of his/her submission. Community service must be verifiable with letters of recommendation and contact information. Each student must also submit a 500 word essay titled "What I Am Doing to Make a Difference in My Community". Two recipients will be awarded a $500 scholarship.
This scholarship is in honor of Gregory Dewayne Smith, a board member for Dean's Professional Services who lost a battle with pneumonia in early 2011.
