DPS Food Drive - April 2016
In April 2016, the Houston area was devastated by extreme flooding. Several communities were without power and many roads and highways were deemed un-passable. To aid the community, DPS collected non-perishable items for families affected by the flood. Over 150 items such as canned vegetables, canned fruit, tuna, granola bars, and peanut butter were collected and delivered to the American Red Cross.
DPS Collects Items for Young Women's Shelter - June 2016
In an effort to help those in need, DPS collected hygiene products and clothing for girls aged 8-17 years old in Houston. Over 200 items were collected including shampoo, soap, clothing, and hair products and then passed out in a Houston area shelter for young women.
DPS Annual Gregory D. Smith Memorial Scholarship - July 2016
This annual scholarship is in honor of Gregory Dewayne Smith, a board member for Dean’s Professional Services who lost a battle with pneumonia in early 2011. Jennifer Dean, President and CEO of Dean’s Professional Services is quoted as stating “The student chosen to receive this scholarship should possess the same passion for change that Mr. Gregory Dewayne Smith possessed”.
DPS established a memorial scholarship in his honor dedicated to assisting high school seniors who have a passion for community service. Every year, DPS offers an annual $500 scholarship to quailfying students. The qualifications include any high school senior who has completed 100 hours of community service within 24 months prior to the date of submission, two letters of recommendation, and resume submission.
